2009 - Celebrating 125 Years of Football History
This Unibond Division One game burst into life in the second
period for all the wrong reasons.

Both sides were striving for fluency in an average first half.
Five minutes after the break Salford's Thomas received the
ball in what seemed an offside position. He attempted to
round keeper Paxton who was adjudged to have clipped the
City striker just outside the area. The Prescot keeper was
dismissed from the pitch. Giggs floated the free kick into the
net to effectively condemn Cables to another defeat.

Salford increased their lead on 72 minutes from another free
kick. Dave Neville unchallenged header finding the net.

Prescot then produced their best football of the game. In the
90th minute the referee awarded them a penalty. Phil Green
stepped forward to blast the ball past Robertson.

A farcical ending ensued when Thomas, seemingly well
offside, forced replacement keeper Liptrot to bring him down in
the area. Liptrot followed Paxton to the dressing room as Dave
Neville easily beat third keeper McCulloch in the 93rd minute.
