What began as a stroll for Lancaster almost finished in
embarrassment in this FA Trophy encounter at Hope Street.
In the first half the visitors showed they had the potential to
score at will. Only a minute had passed when a header seemed
to be looping, aided by the strong wind, into the Prescot net.
Andy Paxton managed to tip the ball over the bar. He was in the
action again blocking a point blank range effort from Rushton.
Lancaster's only goal, in the 11th minute, of the half came about
from a hopeful ball over the top that caused defender Ridler to
hesitate when in no danger. Connerton managed to wrestle the
ball away with the evitable result.

Prescot enjoyed most the play in the second half. A long floated
free kick deceived the Lancaster defence. Mitten's instinctive
touch was guided straight into the hands of keeper Fearon.
A weak header back to Fearon allowed Aaron Rey to pounce.
He was unable to steer the ball past the advancing keeper when
an open goal beckoned.
Prescot's endeavour was undone as Lancaster made the home
side pay again for a lapse in passing. The ball was switched to
the right where Rushton and full back Morgan battled. The
Lancaster wing man forced his way into the area and fired into
the net from a tight angle on 66 minutes.
On 83 minutes substitute Green was allowed to run
unchallenged into the Lancaster area where he headed past
Fearon.
A frantic finish ensued with a number of Prescot corners.
Connell's cycle kick just evaded the crossbar.
Deep into stoppage time Lancaster conceded a free kick.
Substitute Wright could not have struck the 30 yarder cleaner as
Fearon pulled off the save. From the corner the scramble in the
Lancaster box failed to break Cables way as they departed the
competition at the first hurdle.
