2009 - Celebrating 125 Years of Football History
AFC Fylde 0 Prescot Cables 3
Monday 5 April 2010
Following many unsuccessful attempts Prescot and Fylde finally played each other in the Unibond Division One North in blustery
Lancashire.
Fylde's ground is relatively new and has a rural setting. Access is gained through the pub car park !
Cables were able to use the conditions more effectively as the ball held up in the wind. It was Fylde, however, who made Paxton
make the first saves. He tipped over a free kick by Booth and then from the corner repeated the action.
With the wind holding the ball in the air, McGann and Couch were able to combine to release Aaron Rey. His turn and shot was
blocked by keeper Stevenson at the near post.
On 26 minutes a forceful header by Spearitt was deftly touched on by McGann. The ball sat up invitingly for Karl Brown who gave
keeper Stevenson little chance from 20 yards.
Prescot increased their lead in the 38th minute when a drilled pass into the wind caught Stevenson well out of his goal. McGann
poked the ball past the keeper for Aaron Rey to tap into an empty goal.
Unsurprisingly Fylde emerged in the second half with a purpose bringing keeper Paxton into action.
It was Prescot, however, who scored next in the 74th minute as Spearitt produced a timely interception and the danger was
cleared. Rey controlled the ball well and sent a lob downwind that sailed into the top corner.
