Prescot Cables extended their unbeaten run to three games with this convincing victory over Harrogate Railway Athletic in a fast exciting game at Valerie Park.

Phil Cooney got Cables off to a fine start after 2 minutes when he scored with a fine shot from inside the area after good work from James Thomas.

Chances came and went at both ends and just when it looked as though Cables would be going in with a halftime lead David Brown equalised in first half injury time after some poor defence by Cables. Harrogate could then have taken the lead with two good chances before the break.

The second half began as the first half had ended with the speedy and elusive Brown scoring his second goal on 46 minutes to give Harrogate the lead and at that stage nobody present could surely have predicted what was to follow.

Prescot almost equalised when Thomas fired narrowly wide with a good effort and on 50 minutes he brought Cables level firing a spectacular swerving shot into the top left hand corner of the net. One minute later Cables were in front Thomas again scoring after being put through inside the box. On 54 minutes Thomas completed his hat trick inside five minutes when he fired home from the edge of the box. They were his first goals for the first team and this was his first start of the season having previously appeared as substitute.

Liam Pearson rounded off the scoring with Cables fifth from close range in the 57th minute.

Prescot could have added to their score spurning several opportunities to increase their lead. Pearson missed a penalty striking the underside of the bar and Grogan also hit the woodwork.

Man of the match was James Thomas with good performances from Michael Grogan and Liam Hollett at the back and Phil Cooney and John Couch in midfield.

A fine win for Cables which lifts them up to 16th in the league table with another home game next week against Garforth Town. The same again would do nicely.
