2009 - Celebrating 125 Years of Football History
Prescot has themselves to blame for not securing all the points
in this Unibond Division One North encounter in the foothills of
the Pennines.

Their opponents allowed enough space and mistakes to have
the game sealed up at half time. Phil Green was unable to
control the ball for a shot on goal but managed to set up Dale
Wright who sided footed an effort over the bar.Shortly afterwards
Wright was on hand to take advantage of a defensive mistake,
however somewhat surprised he prodded the ball wide.

Next it was Aaron Rey's turn to be gifted a chance as he
advanced unopposed on keeper Collinge. The Cables striker
disappointingly missed the target.Rey also collected the ball in
an offside position but was allowed to continue. He was
undecided as he attempted to locate Cooney but failed when a
shot, albeit from a narrow angle, could have produced a better
result.

Both keepers continued to be untroubled in the second half
although Gibiliru and Rey had efforts off target. Mossley's
Russell produced a teasing lob that Paxton lost sight of in the
dipping sun. The ball just evaded the upright.

There is a history between the two clubs and that almost boiled
over in the second period as the referee attempted to restore
calm. Phil Cooney, who was fortunate to stay on the pitch,
produced a spinning shot that bounced off the crossbar.

Another bizarre refereeing decision saw Collinge clearly unable
to keep the ball from travelling beyond the goal line. The result
was a throw in ! Cables managed to force another corner much
to the ironic jeers of the Prescot contingent. From which, with
ten minutes remaining, the in-swinging corner deceived keeper
Collinge. Spearitt stole in at the back post to give Prescot the
advantage.
Mossley F.C. v Prescot Cables
Unibond League Fixture - Saturday 6th February 2010
Three minutes later Cables gifted Mossley their equaliser as
Paxton came well off his line to collect a free kick. He failed to
do so and tripped Allen outside the box. The referee instead
pointed to the spot and Kay despatched the penalty kick..
