Prescot Cables were beaten in the dying minutes of what had been until
that momemt a fairly even contest. Marine scored in the 88th minute
just as it was starting to look like like a draw wa so on the cards.

The first half saw Cables adequately equip themselves. All bu for a 5-10
minute spell Cables were definitely on an even footing. Marine had more
shots on goal but Cables defence was strong and we were playing well
in the midfield. Most fans were very pleased with the team performance
at half way. The team were talking and the coach was giving advice.

During the second half, however, Marine started to get on top a bit. A
few credible shots were saved by the Cables goalie Lowe and the sub
Andy Brown. Substitutions were necessary to take advantage of the
fact that the match was friendly but we definitely lost something in the
second half. Cables did not look as if they were going to score and a
certain competitive edge was missing when Fluery went off in the first
half after a challenge that went wrong.

Joey Gib explained later that several key players were missing due to
holidays and coaching commitments who would feature in a first team,
nevertheless, he was content with the progress being made and
displayed against a Unibond premier league side.
