Prescot Cables 0 Curzon Ashton 1

Saturday 12th September 2009

Cables paid dearly for squandering golden opportunities in this re-arranged Unibond Division One North encounter.

The match took its time to burst into life. Phil Green missing the best chance near the interval as a teasing ball out of defence gave the Cables striker the perfect opportunity to open the scoring. Curzon keeper Carnell did just enough to keep the score goal-less at half time.

The entertainment level improved slightly in the second period as Curzon enjoyed most of the possession. However, it was Phil Green again who was guilty of missing a great chance. He took advantage of slack passing by the visitors as he was presented with a one-on-one with Carnell. His finish lacked conviction and the keeper saved with his feet.

On 63 minutes a goal keeping blunder by Paxton, who missed the ball having come off his line to deal with a cross. Norton had a very simple header into an unguarded goal.
Cables substitute Riley missed a gaping target when a free kick was flicked on. He ghosted in and from 6 yards managed to head the ball over.
