PRESCOT CABLES 1 GARFORTH TOWN 1
CABLES SHARE THE SPOILS!
Prescot Cables extended their unbeaten run to four games sharing the points with Garforth Town in a tough uncompromising
encounter at Valerie Park.
After last weeks goal bonanza against Harrogate this was always going to be a much sterner test against a Garforth side that
were seventh in the table.
The opening exchanges saw both sides compressing the play in the middle area of the pitch.
Cables thought they had taken the lead in the 13th minute when Michael Grogan scored after a free kick from Stephen O'Hara
but his effort was ruled out for offside. Two minutes later and Stephen Longrigg made a fine save with his feet from Garforth's
Adam Priestley. One minute later and some good interplay between Thomas and Gibiliru resulting in Thomas crossing from the
right for Couch to force a save from the Garforth keeper with a header.
Garforth opened the scoring on 20 minutes when a cross from Paul Walker evaded Cables goalkeeper Stephen Longrigg and
was headed in almost on the line by Dempsey Smith. Cables should have equalised on 24 minutes when Thomas fired over
from 6 yards after a pinpoint cross from Couch.
Another chance went begging on 29 minutes when Cooney fired wide from inside the box after being played in by Gibiliru.
After 42 minutes Cables go the equaliser they deserve when a free kick from Thomas was deflected into the path of Michael
Grogan who headed in at the left hand post. In injury time Thomas forced a save from the Garforth keeper.
After the break Prescot had the early pressure and Thomas forced two fine saves from the Garforth keeper in quick succession.
Michael Grogan then fired over and Thomas and Cooney had further chances.
Garforth threatened in the closing stages a double substitution livening up their attack and Stephen Longrigg saved well from
Dempsey Smith in the 89th minute. All in all a well deserved point for Cables and they will feel unlucky not to have taken all
three.
Man of the Match: Michael Grogan (Prescot Cables)
