2009 - Celebrating 125 Years of Football History
Prescot Cables Played host to Mossley FC in the Division One
North encounter. At the last meeting both teams scored one
goal. Today neither team were able to score.

After barely one minute into the game Cables striker Phil Green
was hurt after a heavy tackle. The game was delayed for a
couple of minutes and fortunately he was able to continue.

Cables had a livelier first half with a close effort by winger Phil
Cooney just over the Mossley cross bar. Despite a well
contested first half, there were relatively few shots on goal from
either team. Both teams appeared commited and there were
several competitive challenges.

John Couch, back after a knee operation ran himself ragged and
performed creditably for the team.McIntosh was solid in defence
winning most headers and loose balls

Mossley came into the game more in the second half. The
second half saw a close range shot cleared off the Cables goal
line by John Riley. With 15 minutes to go Cables striker Phil
Green shot just wide of the Mossley goal.

On a number of occasions Green found himself with the ball and
in an opportunity to do something positive. However, he was
caught offside on more than one occasion and would have
beneffited from checking his position against the line or holding
play up for a moment while support came.

In the final ten minutes Mossley had a close range shot
stopped at close quarters by keeper Paxton. In the final
minutes a great McCulloch header hit the Mossley bar and was
judged not to have crossed the line. A number of supporters
seated in the stand considsered that the ball had crossed the
line. However, it was difficult to tell from the side lines.

Unibond League Fixture - Saturday 13th February 2010
Despite the lack of goals it appeared that the supporters in
general enjpoyed the game but after having been starved of
action at Hope Street since before Christmas - they were most
likely easily pleased.
