Prescot Cables 2 Clitheroe 0 Saturday 13 March 2010 Prescot consolidated their emphatic midweek success with a controversial win in the Unibond Division One North. A tight encounter summed up the first half with tensions simmering beneath surface. Steve Williams for Cables was presented with a chance to open the scoring when a mistimed header by Brown allowed a race to the ball with keeper Hanford. They collided and the ball was scrambled away. Garner for Clitheroe forced Paxton into action when shooting from an acute angle. Prescot resorted to some desperate defending early in the second half, although it was two decisions by the assistant in the 64th minute led to Cables opening the scoring. Firstly he adjudged Clitheroe keeper Hanford to have handled outside the area when clearing a kick downfield. From the free kick he judged that a Clitheroe arm was used to charge the ball. The referee awarded a penalty and Karl Brown converted. Another mistimed header allowed Williams to drive forward. He linked up with Rey in the area and his side foot volley shaved the post. On 89 minutes the assistant harshly believed that Aaron Rey was tugged to the ground. Another penalty was given and Brown gave Hanford no chance. With tempers rising McManus was dismissed after charging McCulloch off the ball.
