On 24 minutes Cables come within a whisker of the
vital breakthrough as Jamie McCulloch releases
Darren Byers inside the Ossett area. Byers skims a
low cross along the Ossett six yard line for James
Croxton to turn the ball inches wide of an Ossett post
under heavy pressure from visiting defenders. 5
minutes later Croxton again causes mayhem in the
Ossett area as he curls a 16 yard effort beyond the
Ossett Keeper and just past the far post. Ossett's first
effort arrives on 28 minutes when Craig Hall forces
Cables Keeper Zak Jones into action with a rasping
half volley from 25 yards. Lady luck again turns
against Cables when Tommy Taylor is penalised for
an innocuous looking challenge on an Ossett player in
the Cables area. The resulting penalty is expertly
dispatched by Ossett's Aiden Savory.
Far from deflating Cables the setback spurs the home
side on. Within a minute Cables are level as Darren
Byers controls a long ball on the edge of the Ossett
area before rattling a beauty of a half volley past the
Ossett Keeper. Byers causes further panic inside the
Ossett area a minute later as he scurries after a long
ball and just loses out as the Ossett Keeper punches
clear. In first half added time Byers fires a low cross
straight across the face of the Ossett goal just missing
the boot of a sliding Tommy Taylor at the far post.
5 minutes into the second half another atrocious
refereeing decision upsets the home side's momentum
.
Cables defender Rob McIntosh shepherds an Ossett
forward to the far edge of the penalty area as both
players nudge each other and have hold of each
others shirt cuffs. The sort of incident you see dozens
of times in every game. The referee stuns the players
and crowd by awarding Ossett another
penalty.Cables' Keeper Zak Jone brilliantly saves
Aiden Savory's spot kick before the referee orders
the penalty retaken for encroachment inside the area.
Savory makes the most of his second chance and
slams the ball high into the Cables goal.
On 70 minutes Cables substitute Liam Kennedy heads
on for Darren Byers to coolly round the Ossett
Keeper and level the game. With Cables pushing for a
much needed winner Ossett start to exploit the gaps in
Cables defence.Ossett's Tom Greaves races through
the Cables defence before chipping the ball over
Keeper Zak Jones and against the crossbar. 5 minutes
from time Ossett clinch the game as Greaves makes
no mistake from a similar position and his precise lob
finds the back of the home side's net.Cables pressure
the visitor's in the final 5 minutes but are unable to
breakthrough the massed Ossett defence.A much
improved performance from Cables but another
winless Saturday leaves The Tigers anchored to the
bottom of the Unibond Premier League.
