Lancaster City v Prescot Cables Saturday 15th August 2009 New season, manager and players : the same weather and result. Prescot's first match in the Unibond Division One North, having been relegated the previous season, could have been different had Lancaster keeper Fearon not thwarted Josh Mitten's header after 2 minutes play. In was an open game with the home side enjoying most of the possession in the wet conditions.Lancaster should have opened the scoring when Rushton created space for himself following a blocked free kick. He drifted the ball into the box which met by the head of Teague who ballooned over the bar from 6 yards. |
Cables were looking lively, the passes finding their own men. Tony Sayer, who showed is speed throughout the game, hit a low shot that keeper Fearon gathered low down. Cables affinity to concede unfortunate goals at the break continued into the new management era. Teague's strike was deflected twice, wrong footing keeper Ian Lowe. The game was effectively won 5 minutes after the interval when following a blunder by the officials, who gave a corner instead of an obvious goal kick, Cables keeper Lowe could not handle a low drive that skidded off the damp surface. Connerton bundled in the re-bound. Prescot enjoyed the majority of the possession as they strived to mount a comeback. In these situations team's are open to the counter attack and Lancaster broke forward on 62 minutes. Weir turning in a cross to make the score 3 nil. |
Keeper Lowe delayed too long in the 82nd minute, his clearance was blocked by Connerton that allowed Jarvis to slot the ball home. The final goal resulted from poor Cables defending. Teague's sweetly timed shot on 86 minutes completed a forgettable afternoon. Man of the Match: Both full backs performed admirably. Tony Sayer was top of the list. Reporter - Paul Watkżnson |
