2009 - Celebrating 125 Years of Football History
KNOWSLEY TEAM TAKE PART IN
BULGARIAN UNDER 19S TOURNAMENT
AND WIN!
Following on from the successful Knowsley football trip
tothe US earlier in the year, Paul Cliff received a call from
Knowsley Council's Dave Mercer (Director of the
International Youth Soccer Tournament). On this
occasion Paul was invited to take part in a football
tournament in Mohtaha Bulgaria.
After a couple of training sessions prior to the trip a squad of 16 were selected and players were issued with tracksuits and team strips.
The trip startecd on Saturday 3rd October and ran through to the 11th. The team flew to Sofia airport accompanied by Knowsley MP Eddie O'Hara.
The team were put up in a hotel approximately 2 hours

away from the airport. Paul selected to play on the left
wing roomed with his mate Brad Davies who played as
a defensive midfielder.
After settling in the hotel the team were provided with a sight seeing guided tour of a local building of religous significance and were greeted by the tournament Organise called Renee'.
The trip was all expenses paid and although Paul in no way had any complaints he found it a bit odd to be faced with hot dogs for breakfast.
On Sunday the team trained on a nearby astro turf pitch and played their first match on the Monday. Paul was given a full game and the team won 2-0.
