2009 - Celebrating 125 Years of Football History
MARCH TO VICTORY
PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE BORO GOAL
RADCLIFFE BOROUGH - 1
PRESCOT CABLES - 2
Saturday 21st November 2009
In a week of incessant downpours and raging torrents a late morning pitch inspection was required before Cables game at Radcliffe Borough. The match official emerged from his diving bell at 11.00 to declare the game on and set the Prescotian regiments on their way to the outer fringes of Greater Manchester.

Under leaden skies the game kicked off with a series of solid but uneventful exchanges as both teams battled to come to terms with the sodden, sloping Stainton Park pitch. Then on 16 minutes,Rey,the dark destroyer, from nothing fashioned a goal. Turning a defender and swivelling and shooting in one smooth machine like movement the ball was sent skidding into the corner of the Boro net.
42 minutes and Cooney, art and craft personified, flicking the ball over a hapless defence crashed in a volley. Cooney's clenched fist and snarl of triumph to the Cables following behind the goal was met with howls of approval from the massed ranks of wallopers.

Half time 2 - 0 Cables

The second period opened in stygian darkness, the coal black clouds emptying reservoirs of stairod Manchester rain on the gathering below. While most of us huddled beneath the tin roof of the pitchside enclosure the Cables two man "orchestra" undeterred by the tempest took their place on the open terrace behind the goal to add their cacophanous encouragement to the battle.
