Prescot banished their wayward league form in breathtaking
style at the first stage of the Unibond League. Colwyn Bay, lying
second in the Division One North table, was blown away by 3
goals in the first 19 minutes by a Cables team who had failed to
score in 2 previous home matches.

Returnee Paul Lundon began the goal fest on 9 minutes when
he moved inside his marker to strike a perfectly timed effort that
evaded a groping Sanna in the Bay goal. Cables escaped
courtesy of the assistant after Callaghan had allowed the ball to
pass through his legs. Clampitt raced away untouched only for a
dubious offside decision to stop him in his tracks. Che Morgan
then produced a stunning strike in the 16th minute, 35 yards on
the angle, which screamed into the opposition net.

Cables increased their lead further when McIntosh stole in at a
corner to knock home on 19 minutes.Prescot supporters were
prematurely celebrating a 4th goal when Green evaded 2
defenders and the goalkeeper. With an open goal at his mercy
he failed to hit the target.

The score line still gave the visitors some hope of a recovery as
they made 3 substitutions at the break. Aaron Rey had the
opportunity to squash those ideas when he was put through by
an inspired Lundon. Another one-on-one with an opposition
keeper resulted in a smothered attempt.

Bay was leaving space for Lundon in particular to exploit. His
cross found Paul Cliff whose shot, with the outside of his foot,
forced Sanna into an excellent save.Unable to increase their
advantage, the visitors pulled a goal back on 81 minutes when
Hopley ran through into the penalty area, looking in an offside
position. He tapped the ball past a bemused Paxton in the
Cables goal. Sensing a remarkable turn around, Bay pressed
forward but was unable to spoil a much needed boost to Cables
moral.
