2009 - Celebrating 125 Years of Football History
Prescot Cables- 1 v 0 - Chorley F.C.
Unibond League
Saturday 24th October 2009
A familiar face provided the inspiration for Cables as they
swapped Unibond Division One North league places with the
Magpies.

Prescot's penalty area lived a charmed life at times as
Chorley's players, including hotshot Terry Fearns, could not
penetrate an inspired Andy Paxton in goal.

Cables had their spells of domination in an entertaining if
frenetic afternoon. One goal decided the contest on 35 minutes.
A long throw into the Chorley area was flicked on by Wright,
who earlier had got it all wrong when he mis-kicked from three
yards out. Returnee Phil Cooney found himself totally unmarked
and headed into an unguarded net.

The strength of the wind provided the opposition to both teams
in the second half. Prescot was grateful to the Chorley
marksmen as they continued their weak shooting. Paul Lundon
then decided to take on the shaky Chorley defence culminating
in his left foot shot that sped inches wide.

Phil Green then took advantage of the conditions as the ball
was held up in the wind. He beat the advancing keeper to the
sphere but his lob evaded the crossbar.

Prescot managed to hold on as the game finished in a
'helter-skelter' fashion to register their first clean sheet of the
season.
