2009 - Celebrating 125 Years of Football History
Upon entering the ground it could be seen that there
was no large stand or fancy Clubhouse or bar.
However, Harrogate made up for that by being friendly
and good spirited in the main.

The Club makes use of Portacabins for the snack bar,
Directors Louge and the toilets. There are a number of
seats available on one side and one end - behind the
goal.

The players emerged from the changing rooms ands
were held for a few moments in a caged area prior to
being released to run free on the pitch.

After a few moments of warming up the teams lined up
to exchange handshakes. The sun was setting and it
made it quite difficult to view the game from the
portacabin side. The majority of Cables Supporters
positioned themselves behind the Harrogate goal. I
walked to the far side of the ground. It was noticeable
whilst there that the ground has quite a slope (which
runs side to side). Standing on the far side of the
ground I was considerably higher than those on the
other side. Obviously everyone was higher than Dave
Jones wherever they stood.

For the first ten or fifteen minutes as Cables adjusted
to the ground and play they were under the cosh from
Harrogate. After about 8 minutes Paxton seemed to
take the ball confortably and then inexplicably spill it
before quickly recovering. Harrogates secret weapon
emerged when the ball went out on the high side of the
ground. They had a player who could comfortably
throw the ball in to the box when throwing down the
hill. That caused Cables a few problems and was used
to dramatic effect on a couple of occasions.
