2009 - Celebrating 125 Years of Football History
Fred Finney
Prescot Cables Player in the early fifties
Harry remembered Fred well and recalled that he first
knew him when he lived in a bungalow in West
Street, Prescot and worked as a rep for a floor
cleaning firm. Fred's wife was a nurse.

Freds sister was married and they ran a general store
in Eccleston Street called Finney & Hall.

Fred played for Cables as a right sided half-back.
Cables were a formiddable team in those days
performing well in the Lancashire Combination
Division.

Fred and Harry both left Cables to play for South
Liverpool at Holly Park in Allerton.Fred played down
either wing.

If anyone has any further information regarding Fred
Finney then please email the site on

A recent email enquiry was received at the website from an individual
named Floyd Croll. Contrary to what you may think - that is not a
made up name and Floyd plays his football in the Eastern Counties
League.

Floyd was interested to find out information about his Granfather, Fred
Finney who he understood played for cables in the 50s.

A starting point was with Cables stalwart, Harry Boydell. Harry is an
ex Cables player and can be seen providing the Hospitality within the
Boardroom each home match. Harry instantly recognised the name
and directed me to the photograph hanging on the Boardroom wall.
