2009 - Celebrating 125 Years of Football History
125 Years of
Football History
Cables Reserves put on a performance to beat the
Holloaks Actors
Sunday 9th August 2009
Preparations started early in the morning. The Club Chairman,
Directors, Supporters Club members (with roped in family) all set
about getting the ground and Clubhouse ready, folowing a
weekend of private functions. Willowbrook Volunteers arrived and
DJs Derek and Frank began to set up, "One Two, One Two",
followed by, "Two one etc" - if you get the idea. It was all hands
to the pump and everyone that took part deserves a pat on the
back for assisting in this worth while charity event.
Club Groundsman and Director - John Wiliams worked hard
making a last minute cut to the pitch producing a fantastic
playing surface.
What will have suprised many will be the standard of play.
Hollyoaks are an established team and the level of tackling was
evidence of the commitment from both sides."A fantastic day
and everyone at Cables should be proud. I thought the game
would be a kick around but some of the tackles belonged in the
Unibond league lol" (Easty - TigerTalkForum)
"The club should be proud at the organisation and the whole day.I
took refuge with some other parents in the bar and let the kids go
autograph hunting" (KingKenno from TigerTalk Forum). There was
an extremely relaxed atmosphere about the place and the event
establishes Cables as a family Club.
It was made a great day by the actors who were approachable
and the Reserves who put on a good show.
